Timeless Style - Paris Via The West Village

Timeless Style - Paris Via The West Village

Paris via the West Village

One of my favorite restaurants Buvette was recently featured on One King's Lane.  My husband, Philippe and I have been going to Buvette since 2012 and we love it because it truly gives you the feeling you're in Paris.  Every detail by the owner, Jody Williams has been fully considered, from the menu, wine list to the interior design, yet it manages to be neither precious or pretentious.  It's now so popular it's almost impossible to get in unless you're prepared to wait sometimes up to an hour, however it's worth the wait and the staff is welcoming and professional.  Yes, its definitely a big fave!!

Classic and Contemporary Tableware

Part II

At the other end of the style spectrum, the German porcelain company, Furstenberg founded by Charles, Duke of Brunswick in 1747, has just launched a very contemporary line of porcelain tableware.  With only a few dozen employees each is a master of his craft, handcrafting and painting each piece.  The Claire de Lune collection, which means moonlight, is part of the Aureole line consisting of a celestial pattern with different phases of the moon on each piece in black, white and 24-Karat gold created by the famous Korean porcelain master, Kap-sun.

Classic and Contemporary Tableware

Part I

Two interesting but very different styles of tableware have debuted this Spring.  Tory Burch, continuing to evolve her empire has created a line of ceramic dinner and serving ware based on the designs of Dodie Thayer.  Ms Thayer was a popular Palm Beach hostess in the 60's and self taught potter whose hand-made ceramics were molded from cabbage and lettuce leaves, with some pieces taking two weeks to complete.  Her beautiful and unique Lettuce Ware became collectors' items of such style icons as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the Duchess of Windsor and Brook Astor, whose collection sold at Sotheby's several years ago for over $75,000.

Timeless Style: Amanda Cohen's Dirt Candy

Timeless Style: Amanda Cohen's Dirt Candy

I've just read about a restaurant in the New York Times Food section that I found so intriguing I had to share it.  Amanda Cohen is the chef and owner of Dirt Candy, one of the most prominent and influential vegetarian restaurants in the country and situated in the East Village.  The original location was so small, seating only 18 that when Ms Cohen learned that Leonardo di Caprio was planning to come by one evening, she said no, rather than not be able to accommodate her regulars.  Unfortunately, none of her regular patrons turned up that night either, a big mis-calculation for such a small operation.

Timeless Style: Valentino's Jet-Set Life

Timeless Style: Valentino's Jet-Set Life

I'm a little fixated on Valentino Garavani at the moment.  When I think about who embodies a truly sumptuous and exclusive lifestyle, Valentino is the first name that pops up.  His is a world enjoyed with a very small, wealthy group of mostly European jet-setting friends, traveling the world according to where is in season when.  With homes in London, Paris, New York, a private jet and a yacht - he lives very well indeed.  "At The Emperor's Table," Valentino's coffee table book gives us a peek into his beyond fabulous life and the inspiration to incorporate some small segment of it into our own lives.

Timeless Style: Heuso, Mexico

Timeless Style: Heuso, Mexico

Today my inbox contained a post from Bloglovin of an extraordinary restaurant, Heuso in Mexico. Heuso is Spanish for bone and inspired by celebrity chef Alfonso Cadena and his brother's studio, created the interior design from 10,000 cast aluminum animal bones mounted on timber blocks. Pipes and various cooking utensils were also mounted. Using the white brick wall as the backdrop, all the items attached to its surface are covered with layers of paint.  The restaurant now resembles an art installation rather than the more conventional interior of a restaurant.  Not sure whether I love it or hate it, but it's certainly unique!

Glamorous Living: Zuma, Miami

Glamorous Living: Zuma, Miami

I am frequently in Miami and always enjoy my time there.  Miami has many wonderful restaurants and my husband, Philippe and I have tried a few and over time have decided on our particular favorites.  One is Zuma, located in downtown Miami - where the food has been consistently excellent.  Although I have a real appreciation for good food, the setting is equally important, which I'm sure comes as no surprise.  Zuma's menu is a modern take on Japanese cuisine, an informal style known as Izakaya, which means dishes are meant for sharing or eaten individually.  With an atmosphere that is vibrant and fun, drawing a stylish crowd, making Zuma the perfect place to people watch.

Timeless Style: Cosme, Contemporary Mexican cuisine arrives in NYC

Timeless Style: Cosme, Contemporary Mexican cuisine arrives in NYC

I am eagerly awaiting the opening of Cosme, from the highly regarded Mexican chef, Enrique Olvera.  I had dinner at Pujol, his restaurant in Mexico City and was enthralled.  It’s much easier to crash and burn than have a successful restaurant succeed in NYC and to ensure that doesn’t happen to him, Enrique has been doing his due diligence visiting and studying the city’s most popular restaurants and seeking advice from the chefs, before embarking on his venture.
